What a magical day we’ve had celebrating World Book Day with one of our all time favourites, The Very Hungry Caterpillar! 🐛🍏🍉
🐶 A very special visitor! Rosie the therapy dog joined us for storytime, and the children loved cuddling up with her to enjoy some wonderful stories. 🐾 🎨 Messy fun! We got creative painting our own hungry caterpillars using balloons, such a fun way to explore colours and textures! Everyone got to take a balloon home! 🎈 🍰 Yummy treats! We enjoyed some Colin the Caterpillar cakes at teatime! 🧺 Sensory play and exploring! We explored some caterpillar themed activities, including a fun sensory tray filled with food from the story and lots of felt props. 👗📖 Fantastic costumes! The children looked absolutely brilliant in their book inspired outfits, it was amazing to see so many colourful and creative characters! A huge thank you to all our little book lovers for making today so special!

We had an amazing time celebrating Pancake Day today! The children loved exploring the ingredients, feeling the flour, mixing everything together, and of course, flipping the pancakes!
To make our pancakes even more exciting, we chose delicious fruit toppings like blueberries, strawberries, and bananas. This fun activity encouraged sensory play, fine motor skills, and early literacy as we explored words like flour, egg, mix, flip, and pancake! 🥞 We also enjoyed reading Mr Wolf’s Pancakes and learned a fun new pancake song, Mix a Pancake by Christina Rossetti. The children had a great time singing along and acting out the steps to making pancakes! Who else is making pancakes today? What’s your favourite topping? 🍓🫐🍌 Our bright and beautiful Spring display is now up in the children’s library, and what better way to welcome 1st March than with a burst of colour and creativity! 🌼 📚
The children at Compass House Day Nursery have had a fantastic time creating their Spring plates, using a mix of painting, collage, and craft materials to bring the season to life. From fluffy lambs 🐑 and buzzing bees 🐝 to blossoming flowers 🌸 and colourful rainbows 🌈 , each plate is a unique and joyful celebration of Spring. 🌷 🐣 A huge thank you to our wonderful nursery families for supporting this project, the effort and imagination that went into every single piece are truly amazing! 🤩 We’ve also been enjoying a variety of lovely different Spring stories and rhymes, and we hope all the children visiting the library will love spotting signs of Spring and exploring the display. 🐥 It was lovely to see so many local families enjoying the library today, sharing stories, and taking in all the wonderful artwork. Petersfield Library offers lots of fantastic services for families with young children, including weekly storytimes, baby playtime, Teddy Tales, Toddler Time, Mini Masquerades, and Rhyme Times. It’s a wonderful place to explore, learn, and play together. 🥰 If you’re local, do pop into Petersfield Library to see the children’s creations, we’d love to hear what you think! 🎨 🌿 Today, we had so much fun reading Elmer and the Rainbow by David McKee! 🌈 🐘
Elmer taught us about kindness and sharing, and we were inspired to explore the beautiful colours of the rainbow. 📖 ✨ We spontaneously took part in some creative learning, painting our own rainbows and singing a new song, The Spectrum Song! 🎨 🎶 🌈 The children loved mixing colours and seeing how they blended together, just like Elmer’s patchwork. ✨ It was a joyful day full of creativity, exploration, and laughter! 😃 Today, our little ones had so much fun making blueberry and banana muffins, and in the process, we enjoyed lots of wonderful learning opportunities! 🥣🫐🍌
🫐 Counted the blueberries as we added them to our mixture. 🔡 Explored the letter ‘b’ for blueberry, banana, and baking. 👋 Developed fine motor skills by mashing, mixing, and stirring. 🥗 Learnt about healthy food and how fruit helps our bodies grow. 😋Enjoyed a delicious treat after all their hard work! Baking is a fantastic way to encourage hands on learning, creativity, and healthy eating habits. We’ve included the recipe on our nursery Facebook page in case you’d like to try making them at home too! Let us know if you do, we’d love to see your muffins! This week at nursery, we’ve been celebrating kindness and friendship with lots of caring, sharing, and creative fun! The children have enjoyed making beautiful heart-filled pictures, using paint, stamps, and even their own handprints to spread joy.
We explored a Valentine’s sensory tray filled with red and pink rice, rose petals, and hidden hearts of different sizes and textures. The children loved feeling the soft petals, scooping and pouring the rice, and searching for the hearts, making it a wonderful sensory experience that encouraged curiosity and fine motor skills. Instead of making individual valentine’s cards, we all created special pictures for each other to celebrate friendship, reminding us how wonderful it is to share and be kind. It’s been a fantastic week full of kindness, laughter, and creativity! Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at nursery! ❤️✨ We had so much fun today with our water play! There was plenty of scooping, pouring, splashing, and giggles as the children explored different tools and textures in the water. 💦
From catching colourful bears to fishing out numbers, everyone got involved and yes, we all got a little bit wet! 😆 Due to the huge popularity of last week’s activity, we even had some special surprise visitors… the penguins! They waddled their way into our play, making it even more exciting! 🐧❄️ While we were having fun, the children were also learning through play, practising their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, counting, and colour recognition. This week, our little ones have been diving into the wonderful world of penguins! 🐧 💙
📖 We started with a lovely story, Jonty Gentoo: The Adventures of a Penguin by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, bringing the icy adventures of penguins to life. 🎶 Then, we sang and danced along to I’m a Little Penguin, a fun song to the tune of I’m a Little Teapot, perfect for learning how to move like penguins. 💦 Finally, we had a fantastic sensory play session with frozen penguins and icy water. The children loved exploring the chilly textures while developing their fine motor skills and curiosity. 🌍 What Have We Learned? 🐟 Penguins love to eat fish and krill from the deep blue sea! ❄️ They live in icy places like Antarctica, where it’s super cold! 🤍🖤 Penguins are black and white, helping them camouflage in the water and stay safe. It’s been amazing seeing the children so engaged and excited. 🐧❄️💙 This week, we had a very exciting surprise – Phoebe the guinea pig came to visit!
The children were absolutely delighted to meet her and learn all about how to care for guinea pigs. They had the opportunity to gently stroke her soft fur and watch her nibble on her favourite treats🍎🥬. It was a wonderful hands on experience that helped the children develop empathy and curiosity about animals. Thank you, Phoebe, for being such a calm and friendly guest! We can’t wait to welcome you back again soon. We’ve enjoyed lots of fun and exciting Christmas activities this week at nursery! It’s been lovely to see everyone so excited! Thank you so much for our amazing gifts and cards. We wish all our families a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday 6th January. 🎄
